How do I use Forklift to upload my website?

Forklift is a our favorite FTP/SFTP application for macOS. You may purchase a copy for directly from BinaryNights.

FTP and SFTP are the only supported file transfer protocols. FTPS is not supported!

SFTP

SFTP is the recommended method to upload files to your site. SFTP, however, only works with the following caveats:

  1. The username and password are your cPanel username and password. Your cPanel username and password was sent in your New Account Info email.

  2. You can not use SFTP with sub-FTP accounts created within the cPanel

  3. The username is not your billing-area email address

  4. The Port must be changed to 23261 from the standard SFTP port of 22.

  5. Your primary domain, the domain specified when you signed up, must be uploaded into the public_html/ directory.

FTP

If you choose to use plain FTP, that's fine too. FTP is not encrypted and secured like SFTP so please be aware of what networks you're connected to (e.g., coffee shops) when using FTP. FTP works with the following caveats:

  1. You may use your cPanel username and password for FTP access too

  2. You may create additional FTP accounts via your cPanel.

  3. When using FTP accounts created via your cPanel, the username for FTP includes your domain name (e.g., yourCustomFTPAccount@example.com)
